According to Tuoi Tre , 13 villas in Districts 1 and 3 are scheduled to meet their demise in the near future. Though the city's Villa Classification Council is attempting to preserve many of these buildings, some have already been demolished.

The design focuses on connecting the home’s living space to its adjacent garden, allowing it to blend in with the landscape. Built in 1876, the former Cercle des Officiers building which currently houses the District 1 People’s Committee is one of the oldest French colonial buildings left in the city. Not recognized as a historical or cultural relic, the rebuilding or demolition of the building would not violate any regulations, said the Head of the People’s Committee of District 1 , Phạm Thành Kiên.
