In the near future, a select number of Ubisoft game fans in Vietnam will not only be able to play their favorite titles, but also have a role in their production.
According to a press release by the French video game company Ubisoft, their first studio in Vietnam was officially launched this week in Da Nang. Plans to establish a subsidiary in the country were unveiled back in January this year, with the company looking to form a full team of 100 employees over the next three years.
Ubisoft Da Nang’s newly minted office is located on Tran Phu Street in the coastal city, featuring a contemporary open-plan working environment.
“Da Nang’s universities are some of the best in the country, and the local government’s commitment to developing the technology industry here is attractive to a lot of companies,” Studio Manager Aurelien Palasse said of the decision to pick Da Nang as the company’s expansion destination. “The location is perfect, right between Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, so there is this big talent pool to draw from.”
According to Palasse, Ubisoft Da Nang’s main focus will be mobile games and instant games using HTML 5. At launch, the studio had 32 team members of eight nationalities, though the majority are Vietnamese.
At the time of writing, Ubisoft has 14 Da Nang-based positions listed on its recruitment page, with job titles ranging from 2D Artist and Audio Engineer to Community Manager.
Ubisoft was founded in 1986 and is based in Montreuil, France. It’s known for several successful game franchises including Rayman, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Anno, among others. Before opening Ubisoft Da Nang, the company had already established subsidiaries in Asia based in Singapore, Shanghai, Osaka and Mumbai.
