Haven't we been through enough this year?
Tuoi Tre reports that a tropical depression which entered the East Sea over the weekend has strengthened into Storm Etau.
As of this morning, Monday, the storm was 450 kilometers off the coast of Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan provinces, with average wind speeds of 60–75 kilometers per hour.
Etau is expected to continue moving west over the next 24 hours, with the possibility of further strengthening, before making landfall tomorrow somewhere between Phu Yen and Ninh Thuan.
The storm, combined with a cold front, will cause heavy rain for provinces ranging from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa through Thursday. Quang Binh and the Central Highlands will also get rain, though less than is anticipated for the south-central coast.
Multiple storms and tropical depressions struck Vietnam last month, most notably Typhoon Molave, causing dozens of deaths and over US$800 million in damage.
And, following Etau, yet another tropical system is expected to enter the East Sea on Thursday and eventually threaten Vietnam.
