As both storms move closer to land, Typhoon Chanthu has stolen energy from Tropical Storm Conson. Chanthu's wind speeds accelerated from 50 km/h to 260 km/h within just 48 hours.

According to CNN, Chanthu is one of the strongest storms this year, reaching super typhoon status. It hit the Philippines this morning with maximum sustained winds of 215 km/h near the center and gusts up to 265 km/h.
Chanthu is forecasted to head north in the next 24 hours, reaching Taiwan some time tonight. The typhoon is expected to weaken some, yet will still bring the island widespread heavy rain of 200-300 millimeters.
Although weaker than Chanthu, Conson still has force 11 winds (100-115 kph) near its eye, creating waves up to six meters in the East Sea. The storm will make landfall near Da Nang tonight.
Strong wind and heavy sustained rain is expected to start today in the provinces between Quang Tri and Thanh Hoa. Flash floods and mudslides might occur in mountainous regions. To prepare for Conson, Vietnam has put 500,000 soldiers on standby.
In his latest update, Hanoi’s Weatherdude said that as Chanthu moves up north, it will pull Conson toward the capital, bringing more unpredictable rain patterns to central and northern Vietnam in the coming days
