Haivl, Vietnam’s answer to the massively popular US site 9GAG which entertains users with comical images and videos, has been acquired by a local ad agency, according to the site’s founder and admin, Vo Thanh Quang.
The site was snatched up by 24h Online Advertising JSC, the operator of www.24h.com.vn, “one of the top-visited websites in Vietnam,” for a hefty sum of $1.5 million, reports Tuoi Tre.
Havil, which was founded in 2012, enjoys a strong social media presence with 4.4 million Facebook fans, resulting in monthly revenues of $37,654.
Quang said that he will continue to administrate the site, adding that his staff will not be merged with that of 24h.
“There are talented people behind Haivl and 24h will not intervene in their operations,” confirmed 24h Online Advertising general director Phan Minh Tam.
Hopefully that’s the case since I was just learning how to properly troll in Vietnamese.
