Da Nang authorities are scrutinizing an apartment building project by real estate conglomerate Muong Thanh.
Officials have recently halted construction of the Muong Thanh Son Tra apartment complex for several alleged permit breaches, according to VietnamNet.
The project owner, Dien Bien Construction No. 1, originally obtained licensing to build a hotel and two 42-story residential buildings, of which four floors were set aside for parking lots, a kindergarten, communal areas and gym facilities.
After discovering that the four floors had been turned into 104 additional flats, Da Nang’s Department of Construction fined the firm a sum of VND40 million (US$1,800) in June 2016 and suspended further operation until a new permit could be issued.
Despite these penalties, Muong Thanh Son Tra resumed construction as normal, even putting the properties on sale without approval from the authorities.
A recent press release from the Department of Construction acknowledges that the project owner has filed a revision to the buildings’ purposes. The city has also agreed to allot a nearby land plot of 4,500 square meters for the construction of an underground parking lot and other public facilities.
But since the permit has yet to arrive, the department issued another stop-work order in April of this year. However, Tuoi Tre observed earlier this week that workers were rushing to put the final touches on some of the buildings.
Muong Thanh Group has repeatedly come under criticism in the past for similar violations in Dak Lak, Nha Trang, and Mui Ne.
